School of Humanities, founded in 1995, with a long history and profound cultural accumulation. The School has three departments, namely Chinese Language and Literature, History and Philosophy, and has two first-level doctorate degrees in Chinese Language and Literature and Philosophy. Now the School sets up more than 20 research institutes, including Research Institute of Gan Studies, Regionals History and Archives Literature Research Center, Institute for Advanced Humanities of Gu jiguang, Sinology Institute, Jiang You Philosophy Research Center, Gan and Hakka dialects and Applied Language Research Center, Research Center on Strengthening a Community for the Chinese Nation in Jiangxi Universities, and Digital Humanities Research Center of Nanchang University. Therefore, the School is a talent training base integrating teaching, research and practice.

Faculty Staff: The School presently has 164 faculty members, including 41 professors and 29 associate professors. And 124 of them get doctorates. Now there are one National Outstanding Teacher, two State Council Special Allowance Experts, and one Provincial Famous Teacher. Besides, there are six people awarded the Provincial Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousands Talents, and four awarded the Provincial Young Jinggang Scholars. There are two candidates for the Provincial Thousand Talents Program, and one provincial cultural master who is also selected as the Ideological and Cultural Young Talent of the“Four Batch Talent Project”. Besides, we have ten Provincial Discipline Leaders among young and middle-aged, and nine Provincial Core Teachers among young and middle-aged. So far, there are 37 doctoral supervisors and 97 master’s supervisors.

Educational Level: There are two doctorate degree programs of the first-level discipline in Chinese Language and Literature and Philosophy, and two doctorate degree programs of the secondary discipline in Cultural Resources and Industrial Management and Historical Heritage Management. Now the School has five undergraduate majors, namely Chinese Language and Literature, International Education of Chinese Language, History, Archival Science and Philosophy. At the same time, there are three master's degree programs of the first-level discipline in Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese History and Philosophy. Moreover, the School establishes other 17 master's degree programs of the secondary discipline, such as Modern Chinese, Chinese Philosophy, Chinese History and Sinology. And there are now more than 1800 students in our school.

Discipline Platform: The School sets up one core constructive discipline of National 211 project called Gan Studies, and five national undergraduate teaching platforms, namely National Characteristic Major of Chinese Language and Literature, National Excellent Course of Modern Chinese, National Excellent Video Open Course of Modern Chinese and Social Life, National Excellent Resource Sharing Course of Modern Chinese, and National Language and Character Promotion Base. What’s more, we establish two provincial first-level discipline research platforms, namely Key Disciplines of Chinese Language and Literature, and Demonstration Master's Program of Chinese Language and Literature. And it has four National First-level Undergraduate Majors, namely Chinese Language and Literature, History, Philosophy and International Education of Chinese Language. Furthermore, there are also one Provincial Brand Major called Archives, and seven Provincial Quality Courses, namely Ancient Chinese, History of Chinese Literature, History of Chinese Philosophy, Modern Chinese, Introduction to Literature, World Chinese Literature and Ethics. It now sets up one Provincial Teaching Team of Modern Chinese, and four Provincial Key Disciplines, such as Literature and Art.

Scientific Achievement: The project approval rate of National Social Science Fund has repeatedly reached a new peak, and the School is currently undertaking more than 50 National Social Science Fund Projects, including Major Projects and Key Projects. Moreover, a considerable number of papers have been published in the authoritative journals, such as  Chinese Social Sciences ,  Philosophical Studies ,  Foreign Literature Review , Art Studies ,  Literary Review and  Chinese Language . In addition, dozens of academic works and textbooks have been published. And the academic level is among the advanced ranks in the field.

The School has advanced teaching hardware facilities, and the scientific research institutions affiliated to each department have hundreds of thousands professional books and materials. The total using area of the reference room is nearly 1200 square meters. It has first-class teaching facilities including Language Lab, Microteaching Lab, Applied Language Center Lab and Digital Lab, which create favorable learning conditions for students to increase knowledge, broaden horizons and concentrate on studies.

The School makes “People-oriented, Literature-advocating” as motto, takes “Teaching, Discipline, System and Society” as ideas, and uses “Creating a First-class School with Humanistic Feelings” as target. We actively implement the working method of “Strong Discipline, Fine Management, Benefit People’s Livelihood, Practical Work”, firmly enforce the education logos of “People First, Morality First, Learning First”, and take the foundation of morality and cultivation of people as fundamental mission. Moreover, the School establishes the concept of "student-oriented", and always focuses on “Talent Training” and “Scientific Research”. In addition, it also sets up “Three Virtues of Humanities" (Honorable Conduct, Excellent Articles, and Good Eloquence) as the goal. Adhering equal attention to the “Broad Caliber, Fine Professional” and laying emphasis on the cultivation of students’ innovation and entrepreneurship ability as well as sound personality. Therefore, the graduates cultivated by Nanchang University are welcomed by employers.
