The Department of History of Nanchang University originated from the History Laboratory of Jiangxi University founded by Gu Jiguang in 1958. In 1980, the Department of History was established and began to recruit undergraduates majoring in history. In 1984, the Department of Library and Information Science was established（In 1987, the Department of Library and Information Science was established independently）. In 1985, the department of Archival Science was set up. In 1993, the Department of Tourism Management was established. In 2003, the Department of History was merged into the School of Humanities. The Department of History has two undergraduate majors, History and archival science, as well as the second-level discipline of Historical heritage management, the first-level discipline of Chinese History and the second-level discipline of Archival Science.
