Introduction to the Department of Chinese Language and Literature

The Department of Chinese Language and Literature, founded in 1958, has two majors: Chinese Language and Journalism. In January 1965, it moved to Ruijin University in accordance with the spirit of liberal arts education reform of the Central Government, and practiced "work-study". In October 1968, with the abolition of Jiangxi University and the decentralization of teachers, the school was suspended, and it was not resumed until October 1972. In September 1977, the university resumed all the basic courses and the teaching and research departments of corresponding disciplines. And in 1979, it enrolled three master's degree students in general Linguistics, Chinese History and foreign literature. After that, the recruitment was stopped for some reason. In the second half of 1983, the master's enrollment of the above three majors was restarted. In April 1995, it was merged into the College of Humanities, which has 6 first-level disciplines including Chinese Language, Journalism, History, Tourism, Art and Foreign languages. In 1999, the Department of Chinese and the Department of History were merged into the College of Humanities. In 2001, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature became an independent school. In 2003, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature joined with the School of History, Philosophy and Journalism. In 2014, the Department of Journalism independently became the School of Journalism and Communication, and the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, together with history and philosophy, formed the School of Humanities. In 2017, it was approved as the first-level discipline doctor degree authorization of Chinese Language and literature. In 2019, the major of Chinese Language and Literature was awarded as the national first-class professional construction point. The Department of Chinese Language and Literature currently offers doctorate and master degree programs in first-level disciplines of Chinese Language and literature, 8 secondary disciplines, such as literature and art, Chinese language and philology, offer master's degree programs.
