The Department of Philosophy of Nanchang University originated from the former Department of Philosophy of Jiangxi University and has been enrolling undergraduate students since 1958. In 1984, it began to recruit master's students in Chinese philosophy. In 2006, it was approved as a master's program in first-level disciplines. In 2018, it was approved as a first-class doctoral program. The Major of Philosophy became a provincial dominant major in the same year, and entered the construction of provincial first-class major in 2019. It is one of the main branches of the first-class discipline group of "Chinese Philosophy and Jiangyou Humanities" in Jiangxi's high-level universities. The Major of Philosophy has a sound discipline system. There are six secondary disciplines for postgraduate education: Marxist Philosophy, Chinese Philosophy, foreign philosophy, Philosophy of Science and Technology, Ethics, and Religious Studies. While promoting the development of all disciplines, it will give priority to the development of Marxist philosophy, Chinese philosophy, foreign philosophy, ethics and other disciplines.
