School of Humanities Nanchang University Invites Global Talents to Apply for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas)

The Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding young overseas scholars who have achieved notable accomplishments in natural sciences, engineering technology, and related fields to return (or come) to China. The program supports them in independently choosing research directions to conduct innovative work, fostering the rapid growth of young scientific and technological talent, cultivating a cohort of promising academic leaders who can reach the forefront of global science and technology, and contributing to the building of a leading S&T nation.

Eligibility Criteria

1.  Applicants for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) must meet the following requirements:

*   Comply with the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, possess good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists in the new era.

*   Be born on or after January 1, 1985.

*   Hold a doctoral degree.

*   Have obtained a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate R&D center after earning the doctoral degree and before September 15, 2025, with a minimum of 36 consecutive months of work experience. For those who obtained their doctoral degree overseas and demonstrate exceptionally outstanding achievements, the work experience requirement may be appropriately relaxed (not applicable to those who obtained an overseas doctoral degree through joint training programs with Chinese institutions).

*   Work experience in China while simultaneously holding a paid overseas position does not count toward the overseas work experience requirement.

*   Have achieved research, technological, or other accomplishments recognized by peers, demonstrating the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field.

*   Not have returned to (or commenced) full-time work in China, or have returned to (or commenced) work in China on or after January 1, 2024. Upon receiving the grant, awardees must resign from overseas positions and work full-time in China for no less than 3 years.

2.  Restriction Rules

*   Follow the relevant national policies regarding the coordination and linkage of S&T talent programs. An individual can only undertake one national S&T talent program at the same level and cannot apply for a program at a lower level.

*   Applicants who applied for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) in the first half of 2025 but were ineligible due to timing issues, yet meet the criteria for this additional call, may apply for this batch. Other applicants may not submit duplicate applications in this additional call.

*   Applicants who have already applied for other national S&T talent programs at the same level in 2025 are not eligible to apply for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Overseas) in this additional call.

3.  Grant Details

*   Funding Intensity: 1-3 million RMB.

*   Duration: 3 years.


Support Measures

Nanchang University offers Distinguished Professor positions (career establishment) to successful candidates, along with competitive research funding and an attractive remuneration package. Awardees are eligible for Jiangxi Province high-level talent recognition, enjoying preferential policies and dedicated services such as medical security and children's education provided by the province and city. Spousal employment assistance is also available.

Position: Distinguished Professor or Researcher (Career Establishment).

Remuneration: Negotiated on a case-by-case basis, adopting an annual salary system.

Research Funding: Excellent research conditions and substantial startup funds are provided.

Research Team: Support for forming a research team during the initial appointment period, including allocation of 1-2 team members, and annual recruitment quotas for 1 doctoral student and 2-3 master's students.

Housing: A property-right talent apartment at the "Hengmao Qianhu Lanjing" complex near Nanchang University, or a housing subsidy of equivalent value.

Medical Services: Access to quality medical services at the university's 5 affiliated tertiary hospitals.

Spousal Employment: Appropriate arrangement for spousal employment or a one-time living allowance.

Children's Education: Access to high-quality educational resources from kindergarten through high school at multiple institutions across the city.
