Chen Chen, female, native of Xingguo, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, Professor. She received her Ph.D. from Fudan University in 2008 and completed postdoctoral research at East China Normal University in 2010. She is currently a faculty member in the Department of Chinese, School of Humanities, Nanchang University.

Main Research Areas and Interests:

Her research primarily focuses on Ming-Qing literature and literary theory. Key areas of interest include: 1) Literary studies on the Ming dynasty writer Mei Dingzuo and his series of anthologies; 2) Historical and literary research on Ming dynasty epistolary literature (书牍) and its compiled collections; 3) Collation and research on Qing dynasty imperial examination essay (制艺) literature.

Undergraduate:  History of Chinese Literary Criticism ,  Introduction to Tang and Song Literature , etc.

Graduate:  Methods for Collating and Reading Ancient Chinese Texts ,  Monographic Studies on Ancient Chinese Literature ,  Chinese Culture and Literature , etc.

    1.Principal Investigator of 2 National-Level Projects:

    "Descriptive Catalogue and Research on Ming Dynasty Printed Individual Epistolary Collections" (20WX05), Provincial Social Science Project, funding: 10,000 RMB, completed.

    "Wang Buqing and the Localization of Eight-Legged Essay Development in the Early-Mid Qing Dynasty" (ZGW22104), Provincial University Humanities and Social Sciences Project, in progress.

    2013 National Social Science Fund Youth Project: "Research on Ming Dynasty Epistolary Anthologies" (13CZW044), funding: 180,000 RMB, completed.

    2022 National Social Science Fund General Project: "Collation and Research on Ming Dynasty Individual Epistolary Collection Literature" (22BZW093), funding: 200,000 RMB, in progress.

    Additionally, led or participated in 2 provincial-level vertical projects:


    2.Also participated in major national projects led by Professor Chen Weizhao: the NSSFC Major Bidding Project  Collation and Database Construction of Overseas Chinese Imperial Examination Literature and the Ministry of Education Major Bidding Project  Collation and Research on Rare Qing Dynasty Imperial Examination Literature (serving as sub-project leader).

    Supplementary Study Pavilion Contemporary Essay Reader , (the eighth volume in the  Selected Rare Qing Dynasty Imperial Examination Collections series), Fudan University Press, October 2022.


Major Awards and Honors:

    1.The course  History of Chinese Literary Criticism , for which she is the main instructor, was recognized as a Provincial First-Class Elite Course in 2022.


    2.Supervised graduate student Sun Qiancai (Class of 2020) in winning the 2021 Jiangxi Provincial Postgraduate Innovation Special Fund Project for "Collation and Research on Zhang Zhentao's Literature" (Project No.: YC2021-S005), which has been completed.


    3.Contributed to the compilation of  History of Chinese Literature (Ming-Qing Volume) (a national-level characteristic specialty textbook for higher education institutions), edited by Fang Ming, Wu Zhaolu, Luo Shuhua, et al., responsible for writing the section on Ming dynasty drama.     4.Received the Teaching Quality Award for the  History of Chinese Literary Criticism course in the Fall semesters of 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.


    5.Supervised graduate student Tan Luozhi (Class of 2020) in winning the 2023 University-Level Outstanding Graduate Thesis Award.
