  Yu Yu, male, native of Hukou, Jiangxi. He holds a Ph.D. in Journalism from Renmin University of China and currently serves as a Professor, Master’s and Doctoral Supervisor, and Postdoctoral Co-supervisor at the School of Journalism and Communication, Nanchang University. Concurrently, he is a judge for the China News Awards, Secretary-General of the Party Newspaper and Periodical Committee of the Chinese Society for Journalism History, a member of the Chinese Society for Journalism History, a dissertation evaluation expert for the Ministry of Education’s Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center, and an anonymous peer reviewer for several CSSCI academic journals.

  Primary Research Fields and Interests:

  History and theory of Chinese and international journalism and communication, red culture communication, communication ethics and regulations, media and social development.


  Courses Taught:

  Special Topics in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Journalism History, Frontier Lectures, History of Chinese Journalism, etc.


  Major Academic Achievements and Awards:

  Authored the monograph A Study on the Reform of Journalism Practices at Shanghai Shibao(360,000 words), published by People’s Publishing House; and the monograph The Origin and Evolution of the Chinese Journalistic Professional Community (1815–1949)(460,000 words), published by China Social Sciences Press. Co-authored the textbook A New Edition of the History of Chinese Journalism and Communication, published by China Renmin University Press. Edited Health Communication in the Internet Age, published by Communication University of China Press. Contributed to The Chronicle of Chinese Journalism(three volumes, 3.4 million words, edited by Professor Fang Hanqi, published by Fujian People’s Publishing House), Encyclopedia of Marxist Views on Journalism(1.57 million words, edited by Professor Li Dandan, published by China Renmin University Press), and Famous Chinese Journalists(Volumes 3, 4, 6, 16, and 20, edited by Professor Liu Binjie, published by People’s Publishing House).

  Published over 80 papers in academic journals such as Journalism & Communication, International Journalism, Modern Communication, and Journalism Bimonthly, with several articles excerpted or fully reprinted by Xinhua Digestand Journalism and Communication(Renmin University Copying Materials).

  Led or participated in 27 research projects at various levels, including 16 projects as the principal investigator, such as National Social Science Fund Key Projects and General Projects, sub-projects of National Social Science Fund Major Bidding Projects, Jiangxi Provincial Social Science Fund Key Projects and General Projects, Jiangxi Provincial Education Science Planning Key Projects, Jiangxi Provincial University Humanities and Social Sciences Projects, and Nanchang University Teaching Reform Projects. Participated in 11 projects, including National Social Science Fund Major Bidding Projects, Key Projects, General Projects, Ministry of Education Philosophy and Social Sciences Research Major Projects, and Ministry of Education Social Sciences Youth Fund Projects.

  Recent awards include the Chinese Society for Journalism History’s "Outstanding Academic Works in Journalism and Communication" Award, the Second Prize of the "Fifth National Journalism and Communication Academic Society Award," the Excellent Paper Award at the Chinese Society for Journalism History Annual Academic Conference, the Best Paper Award from the International Communication Committee of the Chinese Society for Journalism History, the Second Prize of the Jiangxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award (as principal investigator), the title of "Teaching Master" at Nanchang University, the First Prize of the Nanchang University Teaching Achievement Award (as principal investigator), the Nanchang University "Excellence in Teaching Quality" Award, the title of "Excellent Undergraduate Thesis Supervisor" at Nanchang University, and the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Education (during his doctoral studies at Renmin University of China).
